Care Guide

We're so glad you purchased an Amalie piece! To help you take the best possible care of it, we've created the guide below.

Regarding washing and ironing

We chose to work with woven fabrics and lightweight, delicate tailoring. But caring for your clothes doesn't have to be complicated. Here are some tips to help your garments last a long time!

  • If possible, hand wash your clothes instead of using a washing machine, as it wears out the fabric more quickly.
  • If using a washing machine is essential, we recommend always using the delicate cycle and placing your garments inside out in special laundry bags designed for washing machines. This reduces friction between the garments.
  • There's no need to soak your clothes; this will prevent discoloration and stains on the fabric or loss of embellishments such as buttons and tassels.
  • To dry your clothes, hang them on a hanger in the shade and in a breeze. Avoid wringing the fabric or using a dryer.
  • When ironing, do so on the reverse side and at a low temperature. You can also use a steamer to iron on the reverse side.

Regarding shrinkage

We work primarily with woven fabrics made from viscose. Viscose is a fabric that may experience some natural shrinkage after the first wash. This shrinkage is due to water absorption by its fibers . Typically, this shrinkage occurs in length. Therefore, here are some important points:

  • When choosing your garment, please check the size chart and all instructions described about the product. We strive to ensure that the fit and fabric characteristics are true to the garment.
  • If you need to hem any garment, we suggest you wash it once before doing so. This will prevent the garment from being too short after the alterations.

Getting to know your piece

Each garment has a composition label sewn inside. The composition label provides information about each specific fabric, as well as symbols that represent garment care instructions. Discover below what the washing symbols you find on our care labels mean.
